Your Medical Elective in Sri Lanka
Location: Anuradhapura

Elective Description
The electives in Anuradhapura run year round, and offer a wide range of experience in this major teaching hospital, with 6 speciality wards and 15 sub-specialities:
A&E │ General Medicine │ General Surgery │ Gynaecology & Obstetrics │ Paediatrics │ Psychiatry
Anesthesiology │ Cardiology │ Clinical Pathology │ Dermatology │ ENT │ Forensic Medicine │ Neurology │ Neurosurgery │ Oncology │ Ophthalmology │ Radiology │ Respiratory Medicine │ Rheumatology │ STD │ Urology / Nephrology
Ward rounds are 08:00 - 12:00; you can elect to stay in the afternoon, and / or also join some or all of a night shift.
The A&E is not included in the ‘ward rounds’, but you may choose to join this busy department following ward rounds, nights, and weekends.
Health care is free in Sri Lanka, and you will gain a wealth of experience at this major teaching hospital, in a low-income country, with low-resourced services. Your elective and interactions support the learning of the student Drs and nurses, developing their knowledge of medical practice in other countries, and their English.
Your Medical Elective in Ghana
Location: west Accra
Weeks: 2 - 12

Elective Description:
Your medical elective is in a busy hospital in west Accra.
Your programme is supervised in the hospitals, and managed by a dedicated local community medical organisation led by qualified medical professionals who work in the hospitals, and are dedicated to providing the local people with improved medical support and health care.

A Dispensary; Hospital Admin; and Health Information Technology
Public Health students are welcome, as public health promotion programmes are routinely carried out
Volunteers without a medical background are welcome to volunteer (see more info here)
Your elective provides much needed support to the medical professionals there, and the hospitals appreciate you bringing with you medical equipment that may be donated to the hospitals (gloves, stethoscopes…)

Elective Description:
It is in Kenya that we offer the greatest range of medical settings to select from, including government hospitals and clinics, teaching hospitals, as well as private clinics and hospitals, across Kenya from the foothills of the Kakamega equatorial rainforest in the west, south to the shores of Lake Victoria, and west amongst the traditional Maasai people of the South.
Your programme is supervised in the hospitals, and managed in Kenya by our partner organisation.
