Kilimanjaro area medical missions, Tanzania

medical missions

Our partnership with local organisations and hospitals in and around the town of Moshi (starred bottom centre), in the foothills of Kilimanjaro, has led to the establishment of medical missions at their request.

With them, as part of their integrated health plan, you will deliver healthcare and medical support to the people of the area, who are largely the Maasai people.

How our medical missions work

Medical missions run June - February

During these months, and between March - May, you can also volunteer in the local hospitals

Factors to consider when planning, and costing a Medical Mission

  • For cost efficiency, we advise pre-organised groups of 4, or 10 (see below - transport costs).

  • joining groups

  • The number of days you wish to carry out a Medical Mission, or mobile outreach.

  • the number of villages you hope to reach - e.g. 1 a day for 3 days, or 3 days in 1.

  • Do you wish to return to base each night, or camp out?

  • How far do you wish to travel?

  • Do you want to volunteer in hospitals as well, for the time you are here?

Will your Medical Mission be a one off, or annual?

Medical missions are led by local doctors, and nurses.

Local medical staff will give you an induction before beginning, and will remain with you throughout.

Medical missions are planned with the hospitals to meet area needs, and access for all local citizens.

Qualified overseas healthcare professionals will obtain temporary licencing and registration in Tanzania to be able to practice.

Once licenced, you can volunteer in the hospital when not on or accompanying medical missions.
