Volunteer on Community Social Work Internships supporting mental health teams

Location: SW Uganda

Weeks: 2 - 8

Code: Ug-Pl-SW

Placement Description

Your community based social work internship is embedded within locally supporting agencies, which include hospitals, a university, and NGOs, who deliver a range of complementary services.

You will be supported by the lead agency, our partners, with whom you will work. They and another agency joined together in 2016 to tackle the growing youth suicide rate in their town. They have been so successful that they now deliver a wide range of community mental health services, which are not otherwise provided by government.

The cooperative of local organisations have developed youth outreach programmes, family support, women’s services, and services within schools, colleges, and universities.

You will be engaged in:

  • mental health out-patient counselling and guidance (including suicide risk youth)

  • family visits and support

  • community outreaches

  • school visits

You can also support admin, the organisation of events, as well as other work to improve their service delivery.
