Rift Valley Bio-Intensive Smallholder Agriculture

Project Cescription:
Volunteer with a Rift Valley based organisation that was established in 1884, and has been working with small community farmers for 140 years. Prepare seeds and saplings for planting, make organic fertiliser and insecticide, and apply the principles of bio-intensive agricultural practices to new and traditional farming methods to develop sustainable agriculture, increase crop yields, and grow livelihoods among smallholder communities

Join the Luhya people in and around the forest, to replant and regenerate the natural resources. And conserve the cultural resources of the remnants of the guinea-equatorial rainforest that once spanned Central Africa. Assist with growing trees, nursery management, developing forest agriculture and organic practices, and supporting conservation efforts to protect and save the unique wildlife in this bio-diverse hotspot. Identify traditional medicinal plants, store seeds, to conserve butterflies, snakes, birds,and monkeys. Take part in ecology awareness training for children and youth through school outreach to encourage future generations to protect the forests. Use agro-forestry, and develop organic practices including pest control for crop resilience and food security.
