Crab farming, mangrove protection, & livelihoods

farm volunteering africa

1-8 pax │ 2 weeks from $550 │

4-5 days/wk│2-12 weeks

Project Description

Volunteer with a community making their living sustainable. They are replanting the coastal mangrove forest, looking after turtles on the turtle hatchery beach, developing tourism, and crab aquaculture in the waterways of the mangroves to develop incomes.

This is an ideal project for those that enjoy variety, and being involved with the community. Of course, you’ll be asked to go into their schools too, supporting the development of environmental awareness amongst the students.

  • Supporting the development of the aquaculture is one aspect of the work. Year round you can support their education programs, tourism development, mangrove planting, and in season, turtle nesting monitoring.

  • You’ll stay with local people in their homes, near the beaches, and experience their unique culture, lives, and food, which will include fish!

Our partners will meet you at the airport, provide an orientation, and take you to the coast to join this varied volunteering experience.

You’ll be supported throughout your stay, and have time for sightseeing.
